Product Overview

OpenPlant is a truly Lean application and continues to evolve with four objectives in mind:

  • Optimum usage of internally owned plant - when a hire request is received, all internally owned plant of that category is displayed, including availability and location details, before an item can be hired externally.
  • Fantastic cost control - access to live costing figures per site, job or item and an excellent asset management section ensure adherence to an efficient and controlled business process.
  • Vision - Internet based technologies, no client installation is required which means that any member of staff, with the appropriate security clearances, can access the system from any Internet enabled computer or device, from any location. The enhanced security features, where desired, even allow for other partners in the supply chain, for example suppliers, to view information relevant to them.
  • Return on investment - the above three factors and the fact that OpenPlant does not require any installation on client computers, nor does it require that they are of a certain specification means that many installation and hardware costs can be avoided. Where OpenPlant has been deployed plant costs have been minimised, staffing costs drastically reduced and fraud has been eradicated.

Cost Control

OpenPlant Costing

The Centurian version of OpenPlant provides outstanding facilities for measuring live costs, either by Site, item or a range of other definable variables. Costs are calculated at the time of measurement and immediately displayed upon the screen. These can of course be printed, but there is little need to do so because of the clear display of live, up-to-date information.

  • Site - The address of the site - with the appropriate accounts code
  • Cost to date - If the site had been started after OpenPlant had been instroduced then this figure would be derived completely from within OpenPlant. Where the site was in existance at the time of the introduction of OpenPlant, then this figure would be imported from the existing accounts system.
  • Cost this week - A running total of the exact costs, to the site for the week. A number of accounting conventions can be used to arrive at this figure including 'rounding up' or 'real time' calculations.
  • Items on hire - Here are listed the items currently on hire: the appropriate Purchase Order reference number; description of the item; supplier - which may be internal or external; date and time of hire; the appropriate costing scheme; cost per week; and the actual cost to date for the item.

Developed for all environments

The adoption of Information Technology, in the Construction Industry, is extremely varied. Even the largest companies have struggled to successfully deploy effective solutions to the operational workforce. Open Plant is designed for 'men in hard hats'. For those companies that have provided Site Agents with laptops, wireless cards and/or braodband, it works brilliantly. For those that have yet to invest in technology it works equally well. OpenPlant requires no installation and can even be used from home or on any Internet enabled computer.
