OpenIntranet
Product Overview
OpenIntranet is a powerful web-based groupware solution combined with a stable Linux email server. The system allows for both internal and external access via a web browser, hence it is geographically free of any specified location. This approach allows staff to access their email, calendar, project management and tasks from any web-enabled machine. In larger organisations the OpenIntranet solution can be stored locally, allowing incredibly fast access by those using the system internally, but also allowing for external users to access the system from the outside world.
In addition to web-based access, the OpenIntranet groupware solution can be accessed from anywhere using an email client such as the excellent open source product Mozilla Thunderbird. Click here for more information.
Product Features
Central Data Storage
The possibility to assign a company address to multiple contacts avoids redundant data. Data objects such as calendar appointments and project tasks can be linked to documents already in the system, allowing for a more efficient workflow.
Information for Everyone
If a document is created using a word processing program or an editor then sent using an email client, the document remains on the creator's machine - inaccessible to everyone. Using OpenIntranet's document and project management, all relevant data concerning customers can be organised in a central repository. The permissions management aspect allows you to assign access to all those staff member involved in a particular project. This feature, combined with the job management system and the scheduler, helps managers stay in control.
Keeping Track
Other tasks related to appointments, such as managing resources, can also be simplified using a centrally controlled environment. The status of resources such as conference rooms or office projectors can be viewed, helping to better organise meetings. It is also possible to find out who is currently using a resource using the conflict management system.
Open Standards
In a world in which IT infrastructures are subject to a continuous change, open standards that allow an integration of different products that are already in use in your company will in the near future become increasingly important. Therefore the OpenIntranet solution allows components to be added or replaced with third party products. For example, it is possible to replace the existing web-based email system with an email client such as Mozilla Thunderbird.
Security
The aspect of security should play a dominant role in all companies. The OpenIntranet solution is powered by a collection of secure applications, such as the Apache web server. They provide efficient protection from attackers, in addition to protecting data via the integrated user permission system. With regards to external access, OpenIntranet uses SSL encryption - the standard used by banks. This allows for secure worldwide access to company internal data from any PC.
