Mozilla Thunderbird
Mozilla Thunderbird is an open source email client designed and implemented by the Mozilla Foundation (those responsible for the Firefox web browser). Thunderbird is a full featured email client that provides safe and fast email management. It supports HTML email formatting, in addition to both POP and IMAP delivery protocols.
Thunderbird can be configured to connect to an open source groupware solution such as OpenIntranet. Users have complete control over their personal folders, email signatures and shared inboxes.
Features
- Junk Mail Filters - Thunderbird uses leading-edge mail filtering techniques to filter your unwanted email. When you mark an email as spam, Thunderbird will improve its filtering capabilities to avoid receiving further spam from similar recipients. In addition to its own filtering, Thunderbird will also use your service provider's filtering to further remove spam emails.
- Anti Phishing - Email scams (also known as phishing) attempt to fool the user into sending sensitive information to the sender, such as passwords and login details.
- Security - Thunderbird utilises government grade security features such as S/MIME, certificates, message encryption and digital signing. Unlike rival email clients, Thunderbird will not allow attachments to be downloaded or executed without express permission from the user (regardless or their status on the system).
- Automatic Updates - Thunderbird automatically downloads updates while you work and alerts you before installing them. This helps to keep your Thunderbird up to date with latest security and feature updates.
- Customisability - The way in which Thunderbird works is completely in your control. You can download themes to change the look of Thunderbird, in addition to extensions, addons and new button controls for your toolbars!
