Access Keys

Most browsers support jumping to specific links by typing keys defined on the web site. Depending on your platform (Windows or MAC for example) you will need to use different key combinations. The table below shows the various access keys that have been implemented throughout this site.

How to use Access Keys in your browser

The following table displays the various key combinations that need to be used depending on your web browser.

Web Browser What to do
Internet Explorer 5+ (PC) Hold down the ALT key, press the number of the access key, release both keys then press ENTER
Internet Explorer 4 (PC) Hold down the ALT key and press the number of the access key
Internet Explorer 5+ (Mac) Hold down the CTRL key and press the number of the access key
Internet Explorer 4.5 (Mac) Access keys are not supported
Netscape 6 and earlier (PC and Mac) Access keys are not supported
Netscape 7 (PC) Hold down the ALT key and press the number of the access key
Mozilla Firefox (PC) Hold down the ALT + SHIFT key and press the number of the access key
Mozilla Firefox (Mac) Hold down the CTRL key and press the number of the access key
Safari and Omniweb (Mac) Hold down the CTRL key and press the number of the access key
Opera Hold down the Shift key and press Escape, release both keys, then press the number of the accesskey

  • All pages on this site use structured semantic markup.
  • Many links have title attributes which describe the link in greater detail, unless the text of the link already fully describes the target.

Images

  • All content images used in this site include descriptive ALT attributes. Purely decorative graphics include null ALT attributes.
  • Complex images include LONGDESC attributes or inline descriptions to explain the significance of each image to non-visual readers.

Forms

  • All forms follow a logical TAB sequence
  • All form fields have associated labels
  • Forms use Javascript to validate individual fields. Mandatory fields are marked with an * to ensure that even with CSS disabled they can be recognised

Printer Friendly Pages

  • All pages contained within this website are printer friendly. All unnecessary images and visual components will be removed from any page you decide to print.

Visual Design

  • This site uses a valid Cascading Stylesheet to separate markup from presentation.
  • This site uses only relative font sizes, compatible with the user-specified "text size" option in visual browsers.
  • If your browser or browsing device does not support stylesheets at all, the content of each page is still readable.
